An Update From the Scorer Education Manager (SEM) By the time you read this, the UK outdoor cricket season will be a distant memory of hazy summer days. I hope that most of your matches went smoothly and without the need for target recalculation due to ground, weather and light. You have heard from the National Scorers’ Officer about the scoring appointments that she has been able to make. If you are wondering how to get some of these appointments yourself, you need to be at the right level for appointing. Many of our national appointments need Level 2 or Level 3 scorers, so if you want to be included as a potential scorer for one of these matches, then this is just the time of year to get prepared. Have a look on the scorer’s page of the ECB ACO website (https://www.ecb.co.uk/be-involved/officials/ find-a-course/scorers-count) and find a suitable course in your area. If you have already attended a course, put your new skills to good use and prepare your portfolio, then don’t forget to contact your County Scorer Officer to request a professional discussion and assessment. On 1 October the 2017 Code of the MCC Laws of Cricket became active, and although there was a buzz of interest around then, when you received the Guidance for Scorers PDF, these changes may not have featured highly in your priority list recently. You will soon be receiving the Guidance for Scorers information as a booklet that you can take with you to matches next season, but look out for pre-season meetings and other scorer gatherings where the changes will be discussed. It’s a good idea to check your league regulatio
