career, Peter held senior management and leadership positions in a range of small and large companies, including McDonnell Douglas Information Systems and British Airways. He has had extensive experience in financial management, business management, strategy and planning, change management and people management. He has had line responsibility for finance, IT and HR functions, and been involved in business acquisition and disposal.
Peter’ s interest in cricket started as a junior player and progressed through to First XI cricket before dropping back to a lower standard towards the end of his playing days. He had seven years’ experience as captain. Peter stopped playing in 2000, qualified as an umpire and joined the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League( SHCL) panel in 2002. In 2003, he was invited to join the Home Counties Premier League panel and has umpired at premier or feeder league level for the last 14 years.
In 2003 he took over as Appointments Co-ordinator for the SHCL panel and continues to hold that position. Peter created a computer programme to control the process, and, more recently, was instrumental in implementing Whostheumpire in Hertfordshire … and is a great champion of the online appointments system.
Sid Poole – London
Sid is a Yorkshireman, born in Scarborough, He moved to London where he worked in the
Civil Service until he took early retirement at the age of 53. After leaving the Civil Service he worked on a part-time basis in the Indoor Cricket School at Lord’ s.
He began umpiring at the age of 31 at North London CC, where his first season was as resident umpire to the Third XI. He joined the panel of the Middlesex League in 1981 and remained on the panel until his retirement from active umpiring at the end of the 2012 season. During that time, he also spent some 17 years as a County second team umpire,( latterly the D List) and stood in numerous MCC and MCC Young Cricketers’ matches, including games at Lord’ s. He umpired the National Cup Final in 2000 and the Evening Standard Trophy Final in 1996. Cricket tours have taken him to the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Argentina and the United States.
Sid was Secretary of the Middlesex League panel for about 10 years and became County Appointments Officer when MCB ACO was formed. He became County Chairman in 2012 and was elected Chairman of the London and East region in 2013.
Terry Burstow – South Central
Terry is the Chairman of Sussex ACO and was formally the Regional Appointments Officer for the London and East region. In 1960 he joined Worthing CC as Second XI scorer and played for the First XI from 1969 to 1982, captaining the side in 1976 and 1977. He also played for Sussex Second XI. He was Secretary of the Club for 35 years, and two months ago they elected him President. In the 1980s, Terry passed the first two levels of coaching exams and coached in various capacities before turning to umpiring in the 1990s. He joined the Sussex Cricket League Panel in 1995 and umpired his first County Second XI game in 2000 at the Rose Bowl, where the Hampshire Captain, Simon Renshaw, scored 173 whilst using a runner!!
Terry retired from the D List at the end of 2016 after 17 enjoyable seasons. He was appointed ECB ACO RAO for London and East in 2008, and retired in 2016. From 2011( like Peter McKenzie) he has worked with Chris Kelly as D List appointer for the South. The highlight of his umpiring career was in 2007 when he umpired the National Club Final at Lord’ s with Mark Williams, who has been a very good friend ever since. The game went to the last ball with Bromley just scoring a narrow victory.
