Buzz Lightyear, waiting
for someone new to come along,
flip up his helmet and hear him say,
“To infinity and beyond!” now
that my grandson Brandon,
almost twelve, would rather play
Jetpack Joyride on his iPod
The miniature horse ranch set
with white, chestnut, gray
and tan steeds whose jockeys
ride them over hurdles in
the hands of my granddaughters,
Autumn and Sabine, who still
are masters of make-believe
.
A plastic car that plays
the Mickey Mouse Club Song
for Devlin, my youngest
grandson, who scoots
around the living room, unaware
that the world will change,
just glad to toot the horn today
