EDITORIAL From the editor I love a good quote. What is there not to like about an inspiring piece of writing that boosts morale or injects some much needed inspiration to ‘aim higher, reach for the stars’ or ‘be the best you can be’? Often someone looking to justify their wrong attitude or actions will find a quote to fit the situation too, twisted out of context. In fact, if you go looking for it on Facebook you will soon find a myriad of both inspirational and justification type quotes flying all over your newsfeed. These will either lift you up or bring you down. However inspiring as these may or may not be, they do not stand the test of time. While they may shape our culture, our thoughts and our actions they are momentary, fickle even, and can be lost as we move on to the next best thing. Or maybe we can read something that makes us feel worse for not actually ‘reaching the stars’. God’s Word, however, is not momentary, fickle or bound to our sense of time. His word is lasting, enduring, without beginning or end, outside the bounds of time and is really God himself! John writes ‘In the beginning the Word already existed.  The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness,and the darkness can never extinguish it’ (John 1:1-5, NLT). What a powerful image, the Word became flesh in Jesus! Living, breathing, life to be poured out to those who are thirsty for it. The enduring Word of God has the power to change lives for eternity, the power to convict, encourage, keep us focused, set us right when we go astray and draw us near to Him. We need to make time to let it seep into our spiritual bones and marrow, to allow our lives to be shaped and changed by it and share it with others. You’ll find that even in reading this issue of Empowered, despite all the fantastic and inspiring articles in it, from the initiatives taking place around the country to the wonderful things happening on the global mission field, it is still no match for time spent reading and meditating on God’s divinely inspired words to us. Make time to read and absorb his word today!
