But it wasn’t always this way.
My personal development journey began
back when I was still married. I had started
a Mary Kay business to try to bring in some
extra money. It was doing well, but I wasn’t
creating the kinds of results I really wanted.
Then, the company suggested that all of its
reps read Awaken the Giant Within by Tony
Robbins.
I was floored. This was amazing stuff. I felt
like a whole new world of possibility had
opened up for me. When I heard that Tony
was holding an “Unleash the Power Within”
seminar near where I lived, I immediately
registered. While there, I realized that I had
been playing small in my life, and it was time
to step up my game!
I started listening to industry leaders like
Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn, and Zig Ziglar,
among others. I couldn’t get enough. I
listened to their products when I was at the
gym, as I was driving, and while I was working
around the house. I was like a sponge,
soaking up all of this new information.
As my attitude and confidence improved, my

which resulted in greater success for me
in the business, which in turn created a
whole new circle of influence. It was a total
success spiral.
I also got a lot of pushback during this
time. Those who weren’t aligned with what
I was learning and creating (including my
husband) told me I was being brainwashed
and coerced, and that I was out of my mind
with this “woo-woo” stuff. I simply thanked
them for their opinions, and stopped sharing
information with them. I was on my own
journey.
When my divorce happened, I experienced
the polar opposite of my success spiral. I
needed time to deal with my personal issues
and get through the divorce, but that meant
that I was less available to motivate and
coach my Mary Kay team. Production went
down, and my team started to unravel. e more
