But it wasn’t always this way. My personal development journey began back when I was still married. I had started a Mary Kay business to try to bring in some extra money. It was doing well, but I wasn’t creating the kinds of results I really wanted. Then, the company suggested that all of its reps read Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins. I was floored. This was amazing stuff. I felt like a whole new world of possibility had opened up for me. When I heard that Tony was holding an “Unleash the Power Within” seminar near where I lived, I immediately registered. While there, I realized that I had been playing small in my life, and it was time to step up my game! I started listening to industry leaders like Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn, and Zig Ziglar, among others. I couldn’t get enough. I listened to their products when I was at the gym, as I was driving, and while I was working around the house. I was like a sponge, soaking up all of this new information. As my attitude and confidence improved, my Mary Kay business soared. I became a top sales director in the company, responsible for managing and motivating my own team. This required me to step up, speak publicly, and lead meetings— something with which I had always been uncomfortable. But soon, I began to notice something: the more I worked on myself, the more I attracted people who were like me. The quality and motivation of my recruits improved, which resulted in better production for my team, Spirituality and personal development are a huge part of cultivating a positive mindset and creating a success spiral. I share my story to inspire you to believe that within you is the power to attract wealth—in every area of your life—not just financially. which resulted in greater success for me in the business, which in turn created a whole new circle of influence. It was a total success spiral. I also got a lot of pushback during this time. Those who weren’t aligned with what I was learning and creating (including my husband) told me I was being brainwashed and coerced, and that I was out of my mind with this “woo-woo” stuff. I simply thanked them for their opinions, and stopped sharing information with them. I was on my own journey. When my divorce happened, I experienced the polar opposite of my success spiral. I needed time to deal with my personal issues and get through the divorce, but that meant that I was less available to motivate and coach my Mary Kay team. Production went down, and my team started to unravel. e more my sales stagnated, the more my mindset shifted from empowered and positive to fearful and negative. Catabolic energy took 31
