ASPC Update Special Edition: African Sport Forum | Page 2
Congratulation to everyone who made the 1st ASPC
African Sport Forum possible. It was an landmark
event- the first time that an ASPC Continental Forum
has been held in Africa since the ASPC’s beginnings
in 1999.
The African Forum was a Legacy Project of the 10th ASPC International Forum
on Elite Sport which was hosted in Durban in 2017. Our sincere thanks to
the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport & Recreation, eThekwini Municipality,
SASCOC, Durban Tourism, the Durban Chamber of Commerce, Prime Human
Performance Institute and the ASPC Board of Directors for supporting the vision
and making the ASPC African Forum a reality.
The vision of the Forum LOC, chaired by ASPC African Vice-President Dr Kevin
Subban, was for the Forum to cover areas that were pertinent to the current
high performance sport context in Africa and create a platform where African
sports leaders and administrators could share knowledge and establish working
relationships.
The programme, which had industry leaders covering the topics of Governance,
Transformation, Leadership, High Performance and Public Private Partnerships,
was exceptional our thanks to the Speakers and panelists for sharing their
substantial knowledge with us.
A life skills workshop for youth athletes was held in partnership with the Durban
Chamber of Commerce and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport and
Recreation on day 1 of the Forum. Over 75 athletes from across the Province
of KwaZulu-Natal attended and befitted from advice from current and former
professional athletes as well as industry experts on topics ranging from financial
management to marketing yourself and the use of social media.
We are pleased, through this digital magazine, to be able to share the 1st ASPC
