A Message from Tapio Korjus , the President of the ASPC
Front of New Era
The sporting world and the ASPC are facing a new era . The world around us is changing and sports must also follow the times . Major crises such as the global pandemic and Russia ’ s war of aggression against Ukraine have quickly changed our operating environment .
At the same time , future megatrends such as the climate crisis , overconsumption , challenges in health care and well-being , the intensifying struggle for democracy , the fight for digital supremacy and the financial and economical burden bestowed upon many nations around the world also affect the world of sports and performance centers everywhere .
The ASPC has identified the challenges of the present and the future . In order to be fully prepared for the trials and tribulations that lie ahead and to be able to respond to rising new demands and future megatrends , we have created a new strategy for our global organization . We have a great responsibility – together as an organization and individually as members . The new strategy creates hope for the future . The values of our new strategy 2023-2024 are collaboration , excellence , respect and responsibility .
The leading vision is still “ pursuing excellence through sharing expertise and experiences globally .” This idea has guided the ASPC ’ s work for 20 years . There are two areas of focus in the strategy – Community and Governance . You will find a more detailed introduction
to the ASPC ’ s new strategy later in this publication .
To support the implementation of the strategy , we have established five new Task Force Groups which are :
1 . Membership Engagement and Growth , 2 . Environmental Sustainability , 3 . International Relations , 4 . Marketing and Sponsorship and 5 . Governance .
Each Task Force Group has its own Terms of Reference ( TOR ) and they are available to all members . The Board has selected five volunteer members per group . The Task Force Groups will work continuously throughout the strategy period and communicate with the ASPC members . We should implement and develop our strategic initiatives together so that we can reach the best possible results in our future endeavors . Everyone ’ s active participation ensures success .
In addition to the implementation of the new strategy , the ASPC community will also be affected by the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics in Paris 2024 and Milan-Cortina 2026 . In addition to supporting the training of athletes , coaches and national teams , we also have to discuss the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes at these events . It remains to be seen when and how the international sports community will open the way for them to participate in international competitions . It will be difficult to make the right decision since the war shows no signs of ceasing in Ukraine , and Russia keeps committing heinous war crimes .
Naturally , our great wish is to bring peace to the war zone and start reconstruction as soon as possible . The sports world can play a significant role as a defender of strong ethical values and by creating hope and faith in the future world . We are truly facing a new era - and it presents a great opportunity for sports !
