IOC Athlete
Learning Gateway
The International Olympic
Committee’s Athlete Learning
Gateway is celebrating a
record 2017 and is looking
forward to supporting even
more Olympians and athletes
entourage in 2018.
In 2017 more than 5,000 new users
joined the Athlete Learning Gateway,
which now has over 19,000 members
using the interactive platform and online
tool worldwide. The Gateway provides
athletes, coaches and athletes entourage
with free courses and seminars aimed at
boosting performances and shaping their
future careers.
The IOC Athlete Learning Gateway has
added five new courses to its programme
in 2017 including: Eat to Compete,
Business Start-Up, Safeguarding Athletes
from Harassment and Abuse, Tackling
Manipulation of Competitions and
Understanding Sports Injuries
Olympians can also interact with fellow
athletes within the Gateway Community.
Here, more than 2,000 athletes and
coaches discuss their achievements
and challenges, access the latest news,
view articles from industry experts and
read exclusive interviews with Olympic
champions.
ASPC members are also using the Athlete
Learning Gateway to support their athletes
and athletes entourage.
“The High Performance Centre at the
University of Pretoria has used the Athlete
Learning Gateway since being made
aware of it through one of our Coaches
Mr Lindsey Parry being requested to
do a course on “The Art and Science
of Coaching” which is available on the
Athlete Learning Gateway portal. Since
then we have found the portal to be of
a huge benefit to, not only our athletes,
but also our coaches and administrators.
There a number of really excellent short
courses that one can do and one that we
believe is essential for all athletes is the
on Sports Media and how to build your
athlete brand. One of the bonuses is that
the short courses are just that SHORT
and do not take a lot of time and they
can also be done at your leisure and not
necessarily in one session. The subjects
covered knows no boundaries and there
is something that everyone that has joined
can benefit from and is well worth joining
if you are not already a member. You can
also get your athletes and support staff to
join by registering on the Athlete Learning
Gateway Portal.”
The Athlete Learning Gateway was
launched in July 2015 following a
recommendation from the IOC Athletes’
and Athletes’ Entourage Commissions.
This free educational resource is
continuously evolving to meet the needs
of athletes and their entourage.
