A tribute to
Debbie and Toby
Toby Sutcliffe Debbie Low
Toby was been actively involved with the ASPC for more than
a decade. As the Acting Director of TuksSport at the University
of Pretoria and the CEO of the University’s High Performance
Centre, Toby has extensive experience in the sport environment
which he freely shared with the ASPC. As the President & CEO at Canadian Sport Institute Ontario,
Debbie was the Americas VP for 6 years. Debbie hosted the
Americas Continental Forum in Toronto in 2012 and was the
lead for the 2014 Forum in Bogota.
Under his leadership, the ASPC was able to expand their reach
in Africa and Toby always ensured the Board was apprised of
the different needs of training centres in developing countries.
He was a strong proponent of the Mike English exchange
program.
Toby served a variety of roles within the ASPC including the
VP of Africa and then VP of the ASPC. Through his efforts the
significance of the ASPC in Africa was materially elevated.
He was very involved in the Governance and Marketing
Committee bringing his marketing and business perspective to
the ASPC Board. Toby was key to keeping our By Laws current.
Toby was the key Board liaison to both the Rio (2013) and Durban
(2017) Forums.
Debbie played a significant leadership role as the Board member
responsible for updating our Forum Bid criteria and for leading
the ASPC efforts in the selection of future Forum host sites.
Debbie was the Chair of the ASPC Governance and Nomination
Committee and was always quick to contribute and share her
expertise within the ASPC. Debbie ensured the Paralympic
perspective was always predominate within the ASPC activities.
