A trance at first glace. The Photographers Gallery is the definition of realism. These photographers show the real, harsh and remarkably candid reality of what life really is around the world. One of the current collections showing is by Zanele Muholi. Muholi's black and ehite photgraphs portray the LGBT individuals living in post-apartheid South Africa. Their portraits and personal stories reflect the impact of both homophobia and violence, most notably the 'curative rape' of black gay women, often resulting in murder. Muholi identifies herself as a visual activist. Her archive of photographs appeals for resistance to hate, oppression and brutality. Many of the numerous photographers at the gallery, photograph what they believe in and what they are fighting for/need to be fought for. These subjects are rarely documented in the news with no explanation of why these

issues do not 'deserve' to be aired. The

Photographers Gallery works at a platform.
