Influences of the economic conditions in China and UK and factors impacted ASOS

Social- Attitudes to Work

Some people have been raised with the attitude that it doesn't matter if they don't work. Many people are brought up with the attitude that as soon as they turn 16 it is their only job to have a baby and claim benefits. On the other hand there are people who physically cannot work due to a

Disability yet they want to have a job. These people are willing to work and pay taxes to the government however they are too physically impaired to do the job to a high enough standard. Many people do not feel this is fair and recently the government have changed a lot of rules regarding the ease of being able to claim benefits, toughening down on those who could work but can’t be bothered.

For ASOS this means that they will usually be low on staff members, due to jobs such as working in a distribution warehouse packing being the main employability for ASOS, many people would rather stay at home and claim job seekers allowance than do a minimum wage laboured job. Due to ASOS being short of staff members this means deliveries may not be dispatched on time or some orders may not arrive safely due to the employees having too many jobs to complete. This eventually will

lose ASOS customers in the long run resulting in a profit loss for the company.

Political- The General Election

During the time of the election many people do not want to go out and shop, so ASOS’ business will see an increase in activity from its regular customers and new ones due to it being a well-known online retailer. During the election many people want to go home and read about the current government affairs, this is so they know who they want to vote for when the final election is announced. By people not shopping at their usual retailer after school or work they will look to other methods of shopping, such as an online retailer. ASOS will have an increase in sales during this period and will see many people ordering lots of items over consecutive days. Many employees will be asked to work overtime in the company due to extra deliveries being made and orders to be processed.

The general election can also be a burden to companies like ASOS, during many election
