Coming of Age
The Coming of Age festival, or Seijin no hi,
in Japan is celebrated on the second Monday
of January. All young people who turn 20
that year are celebrated, as 20 is considered
the 'beginning of adulthood'. It is also the
minimum legal age for voting, drinking, and
smoking. This national holiday is celebrated
nationwide with those turning 20 donning
traditional outfits.
