Tasmina Ahmed Sheikh & Zulfikar Sheikh
Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh is an actress, lawyer and potential SNP candidate for the European
Parliament 2014 elections. She is Founder & Chair of the Scottish Asian Women’s Association.
She has a Masters degree in International Law from the University of Edinburgh and has been
an equity partner at Hamilton Burns WS, Solicitors since 2006. She is also an actress best known
for her role in ‘Des Pardes’, a mid 1990s hit in which she starred with her husband Zulfiqar.

Zulfikar Sheikh was born in Glasgow. He started modeling for the catwalk and top Asian/
Bollywood magazines called Stardust, Movie International and Rivaaz International from the
age of 17. After his marriage to Tasmina, he and his wife focused on TV drama production and
founded Elysee Productions International Limited. Zulfikar’s debut effort as a producer was
‘Des Pardes’, a massive hit during the mid 1990s. A few years later, he produced another super
hit drama serial ‘Aansoo’, which was based in Scotland like ‘Des Pardes’.

Harmeet (‘Sunny’) Ahuja is currently Head of Global Operations at Sun Mark Ltd, a multi-award
winning export company with five Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, which he joined in August
2002. He is a computer sciences graduate of King’s College London and is married to Reena
Ranger, daughter of Dr Rami Ranger MBE, founder of Sunmark Ltd.

a grass roots organisation to empower women to make the best of their individual skills and
talents and to help them to achieve whatever personal and professional goals they have,

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown & Colin Brown
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown (born Yasmin Damji) is a Ugandan-born British journalist and author,
She is a regular columnist for The Independent and the Evening Standard and is a well-known
commentator on issues relating to immigration, diversity and multiculturalism. She is a founder
member of British Muslims for Secular Democracy. After graduating in English literature from
Makerere University in 1972, she left Uganda for Britain and completed a Master of Philosophy
degree in literature at Linacre College, Oxford in 1975. She is married to Colin Brown.

After graduating from Surrey University, Colin Brown worked as a researcher and in 1978 joined
the Policy Studies Institute. In 1990 he joined the Consumers’ Association, ultimately becoming
Deputy Director of Research. In 2001 he became Chairman of the Financial Services Consumer
Panel, representing consumer interests in the policy making of the Financial Services Authority.
He left the role after two and a half years to take up a position at the Office of Fair Trading as
branch director of the Consumer Regulation Enforcement Division.
