He named the picture
“Lips”. When in India,
Manuel spotted this old
man walking towards
the wall probably to
take a break from the
rowdy and noisy Holi
revelers. A narrative
emerged in Manuel’s
mind: He sought refuge
in the still blue ocean
without waiting for that
romantic and soothing
whisper of the one that
matters. He said, “As a
photographer, you have
to tell your story – real
or imagined – and you
have to present it with
conviction.” Holi festival in India has
everyone in the family
proudly wearing their
traditional costumes.
Chidren may splash
coloured water at you
but in return, they
may turn into the most
cooperative models
afterwards.

Caught up in the
alluring view of the
surroundings of
Eikando Temple in
Kyoto, Manuel said he
forgot to take photos
until these two women
appeared amongst the
branches and leaves in
view. He then waited
for this moment until
they were framed by
the colourful trees
by the river.
