{ Editor’s N OT E } “The mind is never satisfied with the objects immediately before it, but is always breaking away from the present moment, and losing itself in schemes of future felicity... The natural flights of the human mind are not from pleasure to pleasure, but from hope to hope.” ASIAN Geographic can be found on board and at the following locations: Airlines & Lounges Samuel Johnson Clubs & societies CAFÉS & Restaurants tOURISM BOARDS attractions commercial centres T he momentous 20th year of ASIAN Geographic has sneaked up on us like the restless musings of a curious mind, miraculously taking shape on the whims of a flight of fancy. Over the past two decades, our curiosities have taken us from the meadows of Mongolia to the beautiful peaks of Mount Cook. In our journey through Asia, we have not tethered ourselves to the tried-and-tested but to our inner curiosities about life itself. How does behaviour evolve and change through the prisms of culture, tradition or locality? What diversity and commonality binds us together as Asians? In this 20th anniversary issue of ASIAN Geographic, we’ve tunnelled through the world we’ve explored in the pages of our issues past and revisited the deepest and most memorable experiences we’ve been privileged to witness. Riding the crest of Asia’s resurgence, we’ve also taken a deep dive into the economic developmental plans of China and India as these two mighty Asian powers navigate the politics of transnational infrastructure development and investment initiatives. These are challenging and exciting times ahead for Asia. As we mark a milestone in our journey thus far, our thoughts may linger briefly on the beautiful places and people who have shaped and helped us, but we continue to look forward to the horizon and to the stars, for it is only through reaching beyond our grasp that we can find something valuable to hold onto.
