It is easy for us to be sucked into the rigour of life. As 21st-century citizens, we live in a
commercial world where wealth and power dominate. While the quest for survival is no small
matter, more often than not, greed enters the picture and overwhelms our desires.
But the ocean teaches us that life is not all about riches or status. The waves remind us of who we
were created to be – the true desires of our heart that were buried, sometimes crushed, begin to
surface as we hear the crashing of waves; the animals show us how to live harmoniously, offering
protection when we can while not taking more than we need; and the endless horizon draws us
in and leaves us longing for more.
The ocean calls us to return to our roots, to dig deep and realise what we’ve been missing, and
recognise areas that have been overlooked. It has much to tell, but are you listening?
