FINLAND

ARCTIC AND ANTARCTIC COMPARISONS

These two extreme regions of the globe are similar in some ways , in that there are still large , unexplored areas , and there are only two seasons – summer , when the sun shines 24 hours a day ; and winter , when there is complete darkness . Despite the similarities , there are also stark differences .
North Pole

THE ARCTIC

Comprises northernmost parts of Norway , Sweden , Finland , Russia , USA , Canada , Greenland , and Iceland , as well as the Arctic Ocean and adjacent seas
South Pole

THE ANTARCTIC

Comprises the continent of Antarctica , the Kerguelen Plateau , and other island territories located on the Antarctic Plate , surrounded by the Antarctic Ocean ( or Southern Ocean )
