Magna Systems supplies winning MAM solution
Reaching more than six million viewers across six states , Australian commercial broadcaster WIN Network was looking for a media asset management ( MAM ) solution that would allow files to be pulled from the network ’ s remote locations across the country to its central headquarters at Wollongong .
Originating from Albury , Taralgon , Bendigo , Ballarat and Shepperton , the files would then be edited and managed for transmission in Wollongong — with a full Tedial Evolution MAM solution supplied and installed by Magna Systems and Engineering .
The criteria set out by WIN Network at the outset of the project , revealed Stevan Djokic , general manager , TV operations , WIN Network , was to design more efficient file movement , transfer , storage and transcoding — with the end-goal of creating a better workflow for WIN Network .
With the Tedial system in place , WIN Network ’ s news teams can now shoot and edit stories , before adding the associated metadata , said Djokic , who added : “ From that point on , they can send the story back to Wollongong via FileCatalyst file transfer , where the closed captions are added and the file is processed .
“ With Tedial automating and managing the workflows , the files are then sent to HQ . Once editorially approved , they go straight to Pebble Beach Neptune automation , or through to our Ignite systems for studio automation , and then onto our broadcast centre , MediaHub in Ingleburn , for playout .”
Tedial Evolution is an enhanced version of Tedial ’ s Media IT platform and is designed to offer extended MAM functionality with advanced search and indexing tools , new services to surf and explore archives , as well as improved integration between archive and workflow engines to reinforce a collaborative environment .
Also offering a completely new user experience designed to speed both manual and automated workflows , Tedial Evolution is built on Tedia ’ s Tarsys MAM platform . A new HTML5 user interface keeps frequently used tools on the screen for improved performance , while multi-screen and multi-platform operations allow users to manage tasks , validate media or monitor workflows status from smartphones , tablets and other mobile devices .
As part of the overall MAM and news solution for WIN Network , Magna Systems also supplied , installed and commissioned FileCatalyst fast data transfer , Telestream ’ s Caption Maker closed captions and an Oracle SL3000 deep archiving solution .
The Tedial Evolution MAM system installed by Magna Systems for WIN Network controls a number of key functions for WIN Network , and allows the Australian commercial broadcaster to pull files from remote locations across Australia to its central HQ at Wollongong .
“ As a result of having Tedial at the core , all of our workflows are now running on a virtualised cluster .”
— STEVAN DJOKIC General Manager , TV Operations , WIN Network
The real benefit of Tedial Evolution , Djokic identified , is how it allows WIN Network to create and automate what were previously manual processes and workflows . “ This includes the transfer of files to and from WIN and the playout to all regional centres via MediaHub ,” he added .
WIN Network is also now able to easily and efficiently view any part of the workflow , identify any errors or ‘ choke points ’ and correct them almost immediately .
Djokic continued : “ As a result of having Tedial at the core , all of our workflows are now running on a virtualised cluster . I must also make mention of Magna ’ s and Tedial ’ s flexibility and efficiency when we needed to make changes during the install as they were critical to its success .”
Today , Tedial Evolution sits at the heart of WIN Network ’ s broadcast network , where it manages , automates and controls an Oracle SL3000 deep archive system , Telestream ’ s Vantage media processing platform , local disk storage and Caption Maker , ENPS news files , Pebble Beach Systems ’ Neptune automation system , FileCatalyst data transfer and Nugen Audio audio correction .
With Tedial Evolution , WIN Network is also well equipped to cope with any technology upgrades in the future . Djokic explained : “ Tedial is not just an efficient working MAM system today , but the way it has been developed , it is completely flexible and particularly flexible , which means , critically , it can grow and accommodate WIN Network ’ s future needs , without the need for any custom development .”
