The first of its kind , anywhere in the world ; free from the restrictions of legacy hardware platforms , and offering a completely virtualised real-time routing and processing infrastructure .
You can view this versatile software-defined IP core routing and processing platform from Lawo at Broadcast Communications International ( booth 6K2-01 ).
“ Some may call it ‘ cloud ’; some call it virtualisation ; we call it ‘ V _ matrix ’,” says Tan Boon Siong , Lawo ’ s sales director – South East Asia . “ It is basically a new IP broadcast video core infrastructure product that will change your idea of what a broadcast facility looks like from legacy to future .
“ It quickly transforms any broadcast installation into a flexible , futureproof production facility , addressing a wide range of workflows and supporting your transition to a totally IP-based environment .
“ It is totally free from the

restrictions of legacy hardware platforms .”
Tan explains that , instead of connecting single-purpose modular products in elaborate production chains , the V _ matrix is based on the data centre principles of flexibility , fabric computing and COTS

( consumer off-the-shelf ) economics and it is suitable for any live production broadcast environment .
“ The V _ matrix ecosystem is based on generic high-capacity core processing modules upon which Virtual Modules ( VM ) are loaded to create the functionality required ,” says Tan . “ Multiple cores are connected through redundant 10GE and 40GE connections to an IP network to form a distributed IP routing and processing matrix that provides frame-accurate , clean switching , just like a legacy baseband matrix .”
The company is also showcasing at BroadcastAsia2018 the V _ link4 and V _ remote4 devices that are managed via the Lawo VSM broadcast control and monitoring system .
“ This enables convenient management of all V _ line video streams , as well as the audio streams from A _ line audio-to-IP interfaces from one unified control GUI ( graphical user interface ),” says Tan . “ VSM provides intuitive video and audio stream set-up with a routing function

that operates just like a standard router control panel .
“ The VSM system hides the complexity of the IP network from the user , and provides immediate advantages , like reconfiguring without the need to touch any physical cables , set up streams and control parameters , all with the use of a mouse-click or touch-screen control .”
Acknowledging that radio today is totally different from what it was 30 years ago , Lawo is committed to creating and delivering more exciting content than ever before , using technology that seems to be evolving — getting smarter — with each passing day .
“ We are showcasing here our Ruby radio mixing console that truly meets the demands of modern radio by blending the hands-on immediacy of physical faders with the context-sensitive efficiency of multitouch controls ,” says Tan .
“ Ruby frees your talent to create easily , naturally and effortlessly — in the way that suits them best .”
