ZEISS Supreme Primes make SEA debut
For the first time in South-
east Asia, film producers can
check out the ZEISS Supreme
family, which consists of 13
lenses with fixed focal lengths
between 15mm and 200mm
— the majority of which offers
a maximum aperture of T1.5.
Designed to cover cine-
matic large-format camera
sensors, the ZEISS Supreme
family is compatible with cam-
era models such as the Sony
Venice, ARRI Alexa LF and RED
Monstro.
The launch of these lens-
es, explains Victor Cheang,
regional sales director, South-
east Asia and ANZ, ZEISS, can
also be attributed to how 4K/
Ultra HD (UHD) is increasingly
becoming a global norm.
“Production requirements,
led by large global content
producers such as Netflix, are
also more demanding today,”
he continues. “With the launch
of professional cameras such
as the RED Monstro and ARRI
Alexa LF, which come with
sensors that are even larger
than full frame, it is apparent
that cameras are constantly
improving with bigger and
higher resolution sensor size.”
Weighing an average of
1,600g (3.5 pounds), the ZEISS
Supreme Primes are “signif-
icantly lighter and smaller”
than comparable lenses on
the market, and cater to the
growing high-end production
users, as well as existing ZEISS
users looking for a shift up to
full frame at the high end, says
Cheang.
The ZEISS Supreme Primes
are equipped with the ZEISS
eXtended Data metadata tech-
nology. Introduced in 2017,
ZEISS eXtended Data pro-
vides frame-by-frame data on
lens vignetting and distortion,
in addition to the standard
lens metadata provided using
Cooke’s /i technology protocol.
This, ZIESS adds, can help
to speed up the entire film
production workflow. When
using visual effects, for exam-
ple, the lens properties can
be removed with a few clicks,
so that computer-generated
effects imagery can be accu-
rately applied to the captured
imagery.
The lens properties can
then be re-applied with the
same click of a button, and
combined with the film mate-
rial to create a realistic image.
ZEISS eXtended Data also elim-
inates the process where data
had to be measured manually
so that it could be corrected in
post-production.
The first ZEISS Supreme
Prime lenses with focal lengths
of 25mm, 29mm, 35mm,
50mm and 85mm will be
available starting this August,
while the ZEISS Supreme Prime
100mm will be available this
December.

The ZEISS Supreme Prime lenses are
making a South-east Asia debut at
