TUESDAY 29
wireless intercom solutions
Artist is a powerful system that
might be over-powered for some
users. Bolero Standalone delivers
outstanding RF technology and au-
dio quality to users who simply want
to have a wireless-only system, or to
connect to a legacy system that is
not Artist. As Bolero can scale to 100
packs, I can easily see systems that
are currently wired for partyline be-
ing replaced wholesale with Bolero.
The standalone variant, which is
available as a software licence with
no new hardware required, puts the
audio mixing on the antennas, which
enable point-to-point conversations
or the ability to spread up to 12 dis-
creet partylines across a system.
We also have a distributed power
system that enables a single power
supply to support five antennas.
The antennas can be connected in
a redundant loop, using Cat5 with a
distance of 300m between antennas.
All of these features drive a system
that can be put up in minutes, while
keeping the redundancy and quality
that Bolero — and Riedel — are
known for.
Another product Riedel is display-
ing is the 1200 series SmartPanel.
Can you tell us more about the
1200 series SmartPanel, and how
it can help to improve operators’
workflow efficiencies?
O’Neill: The RSP-1232-HL Smart-
Panel is the newest addition to the
SmartPanel family. A lot of people
are familiar with our already popular
RSP-2318 SmartPanel, and the two
panels share a lot of heritage. They
are designed to run different appli-
cations, allowing a single panel to do
more for users.
An example is the MN-Control
app for the RSP-2318, which allows
the intercom panel to replace a rout-
er control panel for our MediorNet
system. But the new RSP-1232-HL
has a number of additional benefits.
It is built from the ground up to
be the most flexible panel on the
market.
Like the RSP-2318, the RSP-1232-
HL is designed to work with either
AES3 or AES67, but it also includes
four Ethernet connections — two
Cat5 and two SFP ports — to allow for
redundant connections, direct fibre
connections, and even the ability to
daisy-chain panels. The unique keys
integrate a lever key, a push-button
and a volume rotary in a small pack-
age, allowing users to choose which
way they interact with the panel.
We designed the main display
windows as large touchscreens, which
allowed us to add a lot more features
to the keys and to free up real estate
on the 2RU panel. Around each of the
32 keys, we have an LED to ‘group’
certain keys together.
The panel has a menu display
— also a touchscreen — that allows
users to access a number of functions
without disturbing their existing keys.
This panel can also be used to trigger
our key banks — think of them as
next-generation shift pages — that
allow for a reconfiguration of part or
all of the panel.
Lastly, the extra space on the front
of the panel gives the option of offer-
ing stereo speakers, which opens up
a raft of options in the future.
What other highlights can visitors
expect at the Riedel booth?
O’Neill: As always, we will be bring-
ing the full power of Riedel to
BroadcastAsia2018. We are repeating
last year’s successful layout by show-
ing a full broadcast workflow using
the Artist intercom and MediorNet
as a distributed router, including our
integrated multiviewer. Of course,
we will be connecting these to our
new SmartPanels and Bolero so that
visitors can see those in action.
We have a number of staff visit-
ing from around the globe to help
introduce these new products into
the market, and also to help us learn
more about Asia. I hope that we can
show people how Riedel can work in
a real-world deployment, such as an
outside broadcast system or a studio.
