First Broadcast IP Inter-Op Lab off to a running start
Working late until the early hours of Tuesday , the Lab Rats scurried around to get the Broadcast IP Inter-Op Lab running . There were a few hiccups that needed the attention of engineers from the various vendors who supplied their equipment to form the IT production system .
Roger Loh , the project ’ s coordinator , donned his white coat and diagnosed the problems — and quickly enlisted the help of the software specialists at the show to get the IT Inter-Op Lab up and running before some VIPs from Malaysia and Cambodia , as well as VPs from TV stations in the region , visited the lab yesterday .
Welcoming His Excellency Nur Azman Abdul Rahim , Acting High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singa pore , and his entourage of TV regulators and broadcast professionals was Andrew Yeo , the publisher of APB , the publication that mooted the idea of setting up a lab at BroadcastAsia2017 to test and showcase how , with today ’ s equipment , broadcasters would be able to form an IP workflow .
IP today has gone beyond proofs-of-concept . It is doable and next year , with SMPTE 2110 becoming an industry standard , broadcasters in Asia will have to seriously consider embracing IP .

for the transition to IP , be it an SDI-IP hybrid system or an all-IP infrastructure ?
Ideal Systems , APB ’ s partner in planning and building the IP Inter- Op Lab , is writing a White Paper on the subject using the lab as a case study . It will be available for download at www . apb-news . com before end-May . All the do ’ s and don ’ ts will be incorporated into the White Paper .

The Broadcast IP Inter-Op Lab has also a small live studio to conduct interviews and stream them live onto TV screens as well as to mobile devices .
