26 BROADCASTASIA2016 SHOWDAILY 26 1 June 2016 Panasonic offers a glimpse of the future Panasonic’s Supachai Chanyasawad standing in front of the P2 Cast system. Hisako Chiaki, staff engineer, Camera Development Dept at Panasonic, developed the ROI camera system. She is on hand to give visitors demonstrations on how the technology works. by millette burgos Panasonic Corporation is giving Broadcast Asia2016 visitors a glimpse into the future via its ROI (region of interest) camera system. Using the ROI technology to ‘cut out’ highresolution full HD live feed from multiple stationary 8K camcorders, the technology concept offers visitors a vision of how its multiple-camera system with synchronous control technology works. The ROI system developed by Panasonic also features distortion correction technol ogy and viewpoint transformed in response to ROI for super wide-angle lens, with the high expandability options using VoIP (Video over IP). The ROI camera system concept promises intelligent camera group control, with no limits to the number of cameras that can be used. Moreover, it enables free cropping position (number/format/zoom), and flexible multi-cropping allocations. At the Panasonic Technology Suite (Simpor Room 4810B/4911), where the technol ogy demo is being held, the entire set-up can be controlled using a fully ruggedized Panasonic ToughPad. Panasonic is also displaying its P2 Cast solution. Launched last year, the P2 Cast a cloud-based news production system that leverages the network features of the company’s next-generation P2 HD cam corders with AVC-ULTRA recording — the AJ-PX5000G, AJ-PX800 and AJ-PX270.  P2 Cast integrates these camcorders’ network capabilities so content uploaded to the cloud is immediately available for reviewing and editing. Supachai Chanyasawad, regional product marketing manager for Panasonic, explains that the P2 Cast can expedite the delivery of news to air while expanding the editing func tion to any device connected to the internet. A major P2 Cast advantage is its abil ity via the cloud to move low-bitrate, yet high-quality proxy video off a camcorder in the field, create a video sequence of the desired clips, and then allow newsroom systems to automatically pull back highresolution video for air from the camera. This high-resolution video can range in quality from AVC-LongG12 through to AVC-Intra Class100, depending on preference and available bandwidth. AVC-ULTRA cameras in the field are con nected with the newsroom through mobile networks (4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, or dedicated con nection) and the cloud, making it possible to instantly produce news out of events as it occurs. With distribution formats for video content diversifying and opportunities for utilising raw news resources increasing, P2 Cast facilitates everything from the gather ing of news footage to low-cost distribution within a short time frame with reduced manpower, which will help customers bolster earnings potential and create new business opportunities.
