22 BROADCASTASIA2016 SHOWDAILY 1 June 2016 BroadcastAsia2017 to be held at Suntec Singapore While welcoming delegates to imbX2016, Lindy Wee, chief executive of event organisers Singapore Exhibition Services, traced the path that the three concurrent exhibitions had taken since their humble beginnings in 1979, and revealed how much they had grown. “Through this period, the global economic landscape has increasingly tilted in favour of Asia,” said Wee. “Home to more than half of the world’s total population, the region also covers some of the fastestgrowing and emerging markets, and is all set to be the main force of global economic growth.” Wee said that the introduction of streaming services such as HOOQ, iflix and Netflix in the region had provided proof that consumers were demanding engaging content anytime, anywhere and across multiple devices. The refreshed TV Everywhere! Zone this year dealt with just that, and promised an experiential showcase of solutions across the ❝The region is all set to be the main force of global economic growth.❞ — Lindy Wee, Singapore Exhibition Services non-linear broadcasting value chain. In conclusion, the Singapore Exhibition Services chief informed the audience that, based on feedback from all stakeholders, there would be a major change to the event next year. “Come 2017, BroadcastAsia, CommunicAsia and EnterpriseIT will be a threeday event (May 23-25),” she said. “In addition, BroadcastAsia will be moving to Suntec City, located just a stone’s throw away.” Singapore to invest in country’s talents • Continued from page 1 Simplify your Workflow Broadcast Control Centres Live Broadcast Radio On-Air Studio News On-Air Broadcast 576 ƒ Non-blocking | modular | flexible ƒ Cat X | Fiber | 3G-SDI support 4K 4K/60 Hz DisplayPort Extender IHSE GmbH Asia Pacific Pte Ltd 158 Kallang Way n #07-13A Singapore 349245 www.ihseapac.com n [email protected] 4K/UHD HDR an attractive proposition • Continued from page 1 576 Port KVM Matrix Booth 5G5-02 “Following the launch of Infocomm Media 2025, we proceeded quickly to restructure the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) and the Media Development Authority (MDA) into the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech),” he said. “IMDA, which will be responsible for implementing the Infocomm Media 2025 plan, will develop and regulate the infocomm and media sectors in a holistic way to create a dynamic and exciting sector.” The minister asserted that the third principle would be to invest in the country’s talents. He said that Singapore was making a big national push to help students and ICT professionals to constantly refresh and update their skillsets, and that he had announced the setting aside of S$120 million (US$87 million) to invest in the development of infocomm capabilities over the ƒ 4K DCI | full color depth (4:4:4) ƒ Unlimited matrix support @ 60 Hz next three years. “We are adopting an integrated approach — government, together with industry — to grow these capabilities through the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA, for short),” Yaacob said. TeSA has two focus areas: TeSA Core, that focuses on foundational ICT skills that are relevant across all industries such as cyber security and data analytics; and TeSA Sector that will comprise more specialised skillsets that build on the TeSA Core foundation, starting with the finance and healthcare sectors. “We have also started a CODE@SG movement to help our students pick up computational thinking and basic coding, and to inspire them with the transformative potential of technology,” Yaacob said. “We believe that coding, story-telling and design are core skills that will stand our young in good stead to seize future opportunities, and to succeed in a digital-enabled world.” for broadcasters and service providers in Asia-Pacific, Measat believes that 4K/ UHD HDR is an altogether more attractive proposition, as reflected in the number of customers who have been enquiring about 4K/UHD HDR, Loke reports. He adds: “We also definitely see a 4K/ UHD market for us in this region. The main challenge for 4K/UHD now comes with finding enough, and the right content, as well as to navigate the additional bandwidth requirements.” And Measat is continuing to build its 4K/UHD neighbourhood in Asia, as the Insight 4K/UHD channel became the second 4K/UHD channel to be distributed via the Measat-3a satellite 91.5°E video neighbourhood. In September 2015, the Fashion One 4K channel was launched on the Measat-3a. High throughput satellite (HTS) is another domain in which Measat is looking to further invest in the coming years, with the Measat-5 satellite already offering HTS capabilities. Two more HTS-enabled satellites are in the pipeline for Measat, Loke reveals, as the company continues to look towards the future. "The lifetime of a satellite is 15 years, and once launched cannot be 'changed'," he points out. “The marketplace also continues to change very quickly. This means that satellite operators are finding it increasingly difficult to feel the pulse of the industry. “But we will continue to evolve and, working with the right partners, will continue to seek out the most cost-efficient solutions for our customers,” says Loke. Measat is at CommunicAsia2016 at booth 1T3-01.
