SUPPLEMENT
A handy guide to
innovative solutions
Slow and steady wins the race. While this may be true decades ago, it is no longer so
today. This adage is dead as the dodo in our modern world of instant coffee, instant
noodles — and, now, instant news.

Tan Hui Min Manufacturers and providers of broadcast and telecommunications solutions are
indeed racing ahead at top speed to come up with new solutions to facilitate the
migration of existing legacy infrastructures to IP-based workflows. And the key
concerns heard along the corridors of many TV stations and production houses
nowadays are whether IP-based equipment/solutions are robust, secure, cost-efficient
and scalable?

Lynn Chee The feedback from APB’s team who paced the halls talking to media professionals and
exhibitors during the 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas, USA, confirms that broadcasters
are taking a serious interest in IP-based workflows as well as best-of-breed equipment
that are portable and easy to assemble for field work — and, of course, intuitive edit
and shared storage solutions.

This being the case, we decided to produce this special report to highlight some of the
innovative solutions available in the marketplace today — and almost all highlighted
in this APB Product Highlights are present at this year’s edition of BroadcastAsia
and CommunicAsia.
This handy guide highlights more than 20 companies displaying and demonstrating
their solutions in the halls at Marina Bay Sands, the venue of Asia’s premier broadcast/
telecommunications show. Products on show range from powerful compact zoom
lenses, light but robust tripods and ‘smart’ rail camera systems to versatile edit
systems, portable test equipment, advanced audio and video systems, storage and
network connectivity in one chassis and augmented reality virtual studios.
Last but not least, as social media is becoming part and parcel of TV news broadcast
— sometimes attracting almost instant posts and blogs from viewers — APB has also
included a contribution by Tony Shepherd of SocialNewsDesk on how TV stations
can better manage their social feeds. The software-based solution, developed by
news producers for news producers, can help a station to secure its brand and create
opportunities to generate sponsorship revenue too.
Our mission, as always, is to provide you with ‘news you can use’ … and we hope
you find the articles interesting and useful in your visit to BroadcastAsia2015 and
CommunicAsia2015.
Happy hunting!
