Tedial offers MAM solutions that often integrate archiving as well .
hierarchical content and workflows ”.
And evolution also produced features that proved compelling for broadcasters eyeing more systematic ways of archiving their content .
Li explains how archiving systems are constantly developing : “ There continues to be significant improvements in disk and tape storage technology . This , along with lower cost-per-storage capacity , and improved workflow integration with content and asset management systems developed for the media industry , provides an attractive option for broadcasters .”
In the case of SGL , he says the company offers a new migration service that will assist broadcasters that already have large legacy archives to migrate smoothly to newer storage technology . Also , SGL works to continuously improve its FlashNet product offerings so that it is always compatible with the latest storage technologies
and media broadcast workflows .
Meanwhile , in the area of MAM , there are currently a number of challenges being faced by users of this technology . Julian Fernandez , solutions director of Tedial , a provider of MAM solutions , tells APB that the introduction of non-linear services , which require a number of different services to be managed in parallel , is one such challenge . There is also the reduction of revenues from conventional linear channels — increasing output while reducing costs . Another is access to content across multiple platforms : integration of news and production environments and the business systems that control them .
But fear not , as Tedial also offers ways to overcome these issues . Fernandez explains that one solution is to have greater integration of business systems that drive the overall processes to deliver media to the customer , and an understanding of the business
drivers and business benefits that are driving the overall strategy of the business .
Thus , the company offers Tedial Evolution , which is a businessfocused set of modules for content and workflow orchestration , of which MAM is a core enabling technology .
“ As the challenges facing our customers are multi-faceted and cover a number of different and diverse operational areas , the answer to successfully address these challenges is to draw together these disciplines in a homogeneous manner . Tedial Evolution provides this ,” says Fernandez .
Indeed , these key customer strategies were recently implemented via Tedial ’ s Tarsys enterprise
MAM system installed in the Kolkata facility of Indian public service broadcaster , Doordarshan . The Tedial system now provides its operators with core and browserbased desktop media tools , as well as a fully integrated archive system that is able to scale in volume and throughput . The Tedial archive will connect to Doordarshan ’ s sites in other regions as well as its central archive in Delhi .
As well as delivering a fully equipped archive , the Tarsys MAM will also enable Doordarshan to ingest its existing U- matic , Betacam SP , DVCPR050 and XDCAM HD422 programme content stored on tapes and optical disc media into the system in both high- and low-resolution formats .
Tarsys is fully integrated with 30TB of HP Online Storage and a 48-slot HP LTO6 tape library , as well as Tektronix Cerify QC for automated quality control of filebased content . It enables operators at the facility to browse , catalogue , search and store content via the Tedial Web-client .
Fernandez says that the common rational for all clients choosing to partner with Tedial is that the company takes the time to understand what clients are looking to achieve with the investment in terms of benefiting their overall business .
“ Starting with a businessfocused approach and to minimise risk , both parties have to work together to achieve a joint outcome ,” explains Fernandez . “ This approach , coupled with a technology platform that is future-proof , built with IT standards and on IT standard platforms either actual or virtual , create an environment of mutual trust and respect .”

Interra Systems passes the Baton to Mãori Television
Mãori Television , a New Zealand indigenous TV station , has selected Interra Systems ’ Baton product as its file-QC solution .
As the TV station continues to transition to a fully filebased workflow , Mãori Tele vision said the Baton automated file-based QC solution will form an integral part of this process , ensuring the integrity of the source file throughout its lifecycle by ensuring its compliance , presence and quality .
Gavin Ho , technology manager at Mãori Television , said : “ The non-linear nature of file-based workflows requires us to have a system to provide quality and integrity checks throughout its lifecycle and to ensure externally delivered media complies to our specifications .
“ The new system will be fully implemented once testing with independent producers is complete . This will enable Mãori Television to have the right technological infrastructure to support its future multi-platform operating model . Baton stands out due to its comprehensive features , QC capabilities and focus on customer support . Interra Systems ’ technical support is both responsive and extremely reliable .”
Baton is a multi-platform , enterprise-class , automated content verification system for file-based SD , HD , 4K Ultra HD ( UHD ), and mixed workflows . Supporting a range of codecs and media containers , Baton is designed to ensure quality control of media content before playout . Highly
flexible and able to be quickly scaled for large facilities or high volumes of content , Baton can also be easily integrated within a facility ’ s existing infrastructure as a hardware and OS independent solution .
Sanjay Mittal , managing director at Interra Systems , added : “ Baton provides the most in-depth video and and audio quality checks in the industry , making it the preferred file-based QC tool . An aggressive roadmap and customerfocused post-sales support are some of the reasons we are seeing increased deployment of Baton . Broadcasters and post facilities in the APAC and ANZ region are increasingly relying on Baton for delivering quality content .”
