Residents of the Month,
Larry and Helen Grant
Helen Grant was born Oct. 9, 1932, to
parents Ruth and Homer Fortner of Ash
Grove, Mo. Helen has one brother and one
sister. She started working at Ash Grove
High School as a telephone operator using
the switchboard.
Larry Grant was born Oct. 4, 1931, to
parents Nellie and Bill Grant in Ash Grove,
Mo. Larry served in the United States Marine
Corps from 1949 to 1952. Larry attended
school at Boeing Airplanes in Washington
state and also trained on the Air Bus. He
worked as an aircraft mechanic for 37 1/2
years as a welder for TWA. He worked on
Martin and Boeing Airplanes and a lot of
other planes during that era. He was an
instructor for 13 1/2 years, an inspection su-
pervisor for 5 years and he retired as an Engi-
neer for the last 5 years traveling to where
they needed him to work. His travels took
him to Paris, London, Istanbul, and Frank-
fort. Larry is a member of the First Baptist
Church of Ash Grove.
Helen and Larry were married on Sept.
12, 1951, in Harrison, Ark., while Larry was
on furlough. The couple moved to Washing-
ton ,D.C. where Helen worked at the PBX as
a book keeper until 1963. She is a member of
the First Baptist Church of Ash Grove where
she served as the Church treasurer for sever-
al years. She is also a member of the East-
ern Star. Helen and her family traveled to
England.
Helen likes to read, visit, listen to music
and do group activities daily. Helen and
Larry have one daughter, Karin Lyons of
Kansas City, Mo.
Helen and Larry came to live at Ash
Grove Healthcare Facility in 2018. Together
they have celebrated 66 years of marriage.
