Evelyn Hankins was born Dec . 24 , 1923 , to parents Charles and Celsa Shoemaker in Sherburn , Minnesota . Evelyn had five brothers and one sister . She attended grade school in Sherburn and then graduated high school in Everton , Missouri , in 1941 .
Evelyn married Donald Hankins Jan . 12 , 1941 , at his parents home with her maid of honor , Dorothy Lievan . The couple had two children , Donna Medley and Jimmy Hankins , five grandchildren , nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons . They made their home in Everton . Donald operated a mechanics garage . He passed away in August 1975 . Evelyn is a member of the Everton Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer and clerk until this year .
The first job Evelyn had was taking care of her siblings at home . Evelyn worked at the MFA Exchange as a cashier then as the City Clerk for Everton where she read meters and served as treasurer and collected water bills . She also worked for the Ash Grove Nursing Home from 1980-1985 as a CNA .
Evelyn has traveled to California , Rochester , New York and visited Niagara Falls and Minnesota .
Evelyn likes to eat out at the Golden Dragon in Ash Grove . She used to raise big gardens and have her children and the neighbor kids over to hull peas and help out . They also raised chickens and cattle . Her daughter Donna says that she could dress a chicken and have it in the frying pan ready for dinner quicker than anything .
