Resident of the Month,
Verma Lea Welsh

(Above) Verma Lea and family.

Verma Lea Strait was born on Jan 23,
1933, in Mt. Vernon, Mo. She has one
brother, Roy Dean Strait of Springfield, Mo.
Verma Lea graduated from Ash Grove
School in1950. After graduation, she
studied junior accounting at the Draughon
School of Business.
In 1952, Verma Lea met Jesse Lee Welsh
at the Gaeity movie theater in Ash Grove.
On June 15, 1957, the couple were married
at the 1st Baptist Church in Ash Grove.
The couple have been blessed with four
children, four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Verma Lea sold cosmetics
for Vanda Beauty Counselor
for 57 years. For eight years,
Verma Lea also was a cook
for the Ash Grove Schools.
Verma Lea is still known for
having the best tasting
cinnamon rolls in Greene
County.
Verma Lea is a member of
the 1st Baptist Church of Ash
Grove. Some of her hobbies
include baking, selling
cosmetics, reading and talking
on the phone. Her motto has
always been “the Golden Rule:
do unto others as you would
have them do unto you.”
