There are currently 75 different requirements that fall under the HIPAA umbrella, and every health-care organization is responsible for the protection of their patients’ data. Privacy, however, is nothing new, and is already being dealt with in EMRs. To store patient these massive amounts of patient information, organizations are migrating from physical storage devices to the cloud – raising even more questions about security and privacy. Cloud storage systems assign providers, research staff, and even patients with different levels of permissions, allowing them to securely access EMRs and retrieve crucial patient health information while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
