MDS Symptom
Checklist
Here are some
symptoms patients
with MDS may
experience,
based on the type
of blood cells
involved. Review
the list and share
with your doctor
if you suspect you
may have MDS.

level.
❏ eel less alert or have trouble

concentrating.
❏ et bladder infections that may

make it painful to pass urine or
make you urinate more often.
❏ ruise or bleed more easily,

even from minor scrapes and
bumps.
If you have a low red blood
cell count, you may:
❏ ave a loss of appetite or lose

weight.
If you have a low white
blood cell count, you may:
❏ ave paler than normal skin.

❏ et lung infections that make

breathing hard.

❏ ave trouble breathing.
❏ et mouth sores.

❏ ave rapid heartbeat and

chest pain. (This most often
happens only in severe cases.)
❏ et sinus infections and a

stuffy nose.
❏ et skin infections.

❏ ave trouble fighting infections.

❏ tay sick longer and tend to
get fevers when sick.
If you have a low platelet
count, you may:
❏ et nose bleeds.

❏ et tiny, flat red spots under
your skin, which are caused
by bleeding. These spots are
called petechiae (puh-TEEkee-ie). These occur more
often in the lower legs.
❏ ave bleeding gums, especially

after dental work or from
brushing your teeth. Be sure to
check with your doctor before
getting any dental work.
