The preliminary program for the 2018 ASH annual meeting is now available online . The meeting , which will take place December 1-4 in San Diego , brings together more than 25,000 of the top minds in the global community of hematology professionals .
Highlights include the scientific and education programs , oral and poster presentations , trainee activities , and a state-of-the-art exhibit hall .

Save the Date for ASH-a-Palooza

Are you a hematologist-in-training looking forward to attending the 60th ASH Annual Meeting ? Join us for ASHa-Palooza on Friday , November 30 ! Formerly known as Trainee Day , ASHa-Palooza will provide a relaxed , open learning environment for trainees in a festival-like setting with unique opportunities for learning .
The reimagined event will include ASH Talks ( 20-minute “ TED Talk ”– style presentations ), Blood Drops ( 5-minute , rapid-fire learning sessions ), and Blood Buddies ( speed-mentoring rotations with thought leaders in hematology ). Between sessions , attendees can enjoy ballpark-style food and visit information booths to learn about exciting opportunities in hematology .
ASH-a-Palooza will take place at Petco Park , home of the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball team , across the street from the San Diego Convention Center . The event is free and does not require registration , but entry will be on a first-come , first-served basis .

Mentors Wanted for Next Generation of Hematologists

ASH is seeking research mentors and career-development mentors for the 2019 Minority Medical Student Award Program ( MMSAP ), which provides underrepresented minority medical students with an opportunity to conduct a research project under the supervision of an ASH member , receive guidance from a career-development mentor , gain valuable knowledge of hematology , and ultimately advance their careers .
Research Mentors MMSAP research mentors oversee a participant ’ s work and progress . They assist with the completion of the program application , establishment of the research experience , and preparation of a short presentation of the research , at the Promoting Minorities in Hematology event at the ASH annual meeting .
Research mentors receive an allowance for research supplies and a travel stipend to attend the ASH annual meeting with the student .
Career-Development Mentors MMSAP career-development mentors provide professional guidance , career development , and positive role modeling to participants for the duration of the program ( either 8-12 weeks or full year ).
Career-development mentors also receive a travel stipend to attend the ASH annual meeting with the student during each of the student ’ s remaining years of medical school and residency .
MMSAP is part of ASH ’ s Minority Recruitment Initiative , created in 2003 to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities in hematology and hematology-related fields and to increase the number of minority hematologists with academic and research appointments .
