Cultural Weekend
Culture is about our roots and where we originate, it is what defines who we are. We find ourselves living in beautiful provinces which have
various cultures living in GP-MP, thus the theme
“UNITED IN DIVERSITY” showing that we as ASF
Gauteng-Mpumalanga are one. The Regional cultural weekend is an event were our respective
branches come together and celebrate this wonderful traditional occasion the entire weekend,
with a programme which keeps us intact with
our mission statement as ASFers, that being a
the tradition which we follow. The programme
for the weekend being as follows:
Revival- Spiritual growth is a key element for us
as Anglican students, being Christians. The scripture for the revival was 1 Samuel 9:27, “As they
were going down to the outskirts of the city,
Samuel said to Saul, ‘Tell the servant to pass on
before us, stop here yourself for a while, that I
may make known to you the word of God’”. The
theme was “Ema ke go bolele ditaba tsa
Modimo”. The revival was one that truly made a
difference in our lives, starting the cultural weekPage 14
end on a spiritual high that carried us through the
weekend.
Outreach- We reached out to a home in Waterkloof [Pretoria]. “Tshwane Haven”, a home for children who are disabled, who have been abandoned at birth. We helped by raking leaves, cleaning the trampoline, washing their toys and arranged them accordingly, the day we spent with
the children to some extent was a rather emotional affair and it touched us.
Workshop- The workshop was conducted by the
ASF President Mr R Matlatsa, the topic for the
workshop being “Christianity versus Tradition”,
engaging in a good discussion as groups were
formed to have some sort of a debate or rather
talk show, that making the workshop interesting
and end up being a fruitful one.
Mr & Miss GP/MP- The talent of the region was
somewhat discovered as we had performances by
the REC, the fashion runway had contestants coming from the our respective branches, at the end
our runway we found our Miss GP/MP ’13,
