And For My Next Trick
I ’ m sorry You have me confused With someone capable
And keep the hula hoop Spinning merrily ; Without this distraction .
But there is a good reason For this painted face And oversized clown nose .

Of juggling your happy sacks With my own , In a smooth arc .
I can barely blow out A tune on this tiny trumpet
Perhaps there are others , In this fairground , Who will happily dance An oom-pa-pa oom-pa-pa .

Together
Covid , ever present Danger all around Lonely in isolation Endured in silence , not a sound People dying , here and there Terror , palpable in the air National debt in free fall Enslaves a nation “ Is that fair ?” The damage unimaginable The cries of sorrow , I here beseech That “ This too will pass , and we ’ ll all hold hands , Eating ice cream on the beach .”
Dad
When I needed you , you weren ’ t there . Did you love me , did you care ? I loved you when I had none to spare . I still love you and now you ’ re not there . Why is life so unfair ?

These Four Walls
These four walls are closing in on me . Everything is bugging the life Out of me . Even when I breathe I just want it all to stop And let me get off . Ahm done with it – Please God , have some mercy Ahm sick of keys and doors shutting behind me Locked . These four walls have encased me I can ’ t breathe right . Ma heid is fried And that ’ s my last sigh .

Wandering on Colonsay
Wandering in my mind , to Colonsay , The memory grows bright , of our day of perfect love . The drone of summer bees and the dance of butterflies , Come to me in a drowsy , country lullaby . That day of days , of perfect love .
Your birthday presents , are unforgettable pleasure , To remember each time anew , a new found treasure . We walked up the lane enchanted by wild flowers , Mother Nature blessing us with her power .
Was that a cuckoo or a dove ? No matter , I had eyes for you only , on our perfect day of love . Across the meadow and over the hill , A view to make the heart stand still .
Along that white strand , hand in hand , No need to talk , till we came to that inviting rock . As we lay there in perfect bliss , your silken lips welcomed a kiss . Again and again , till my heart could not refrain For love of you , forever true .
Lying there , we fitted tight as a glove . That beautiful day of our perfect love . But in our minds they shall stay , Memories of our perfect love , and Colonsay .

Though My Mother Was Already Two Years Dead
I could still remember the cold marble of her skin As I kissed her goodbye The marks on her nose , what were they ? I realised she was not wearing her glasses I asked to have them put back on Possessions in plastic A diary with dates that would not be filled Engagement and wedding rings A break in each Where they had cut to remove them An end to the umbilical of our life And the mechanics of death The sitting discussing the coffin options Like choosing a car A nervous laugh from me and my friend A catalogue of caskets And I think how she would have seen the humour And laughed But now she is dead Dead and gone But the memory in loving memory Is still here .

Life and Death
There ’ s a place I can go when I ’ m tired and old It ’ s a hole in the ground and it ’ s dark and cold There ’ s a halo of light all around , as my soul is ready to leave this ground There ’ s people here I ’ ve left behind , some loving , some angry and some of them kind As I lay here and wait at this heavenly gate For you my darling , my true soulmate .
