CAMERA SPOTLIGHT
sony alpha a6000
by Nipon Riabriang
If I were asked to sum up the new Sony Alpha a6000 in 3
words I would say “small but perfect”. This new model has
already garnered a lot of attention for supposedly having
the “fastest focus in the world”, so that was the first thing
I wanted to test out. I decided to take this camera with
me while on a trip to the ancient park in Kampaengpetch
Province in Thailand. I found all the functions easy to
control, just like on the DSLR cameras I’m used to, but
using the 11 frames per second function was fantastic!
Not only do you get almost a dozen versions of the same
instant, but the fast focus ensures that every shot is in
focus, and that’s one thing I definitely loved.
This rangefinder style camera, like all the Alpha series
models, is mirrorless, and it comes with a functional 16–50
mm kit lens – good for long shots and some close ups. It has
a max resolution of 6000 x 4000 (effective 24 megapixels),
and a smart function for minimizing dark areas, making
it great for shooting without a without tripod. This multiframe noise reduction is included in the ISO settings,
and is deployed in low light, wherein the camera shoots
6 frames in quick succession and then stacks them into a
single image to combat noise.
Colour and texture in Bangkok’s Chinatown, easily captured using ISO 800
Even in low light areas this camera still
delivers sharp and clear pics
Overall Rating – 10 out of 10
List price: US $799
