Board Member of the Month – Tom Zajac , P . E .
Hello fellow ASCE members ! My name is Tom Zajac and I am pleased to introduce myself as one of the new ASCE-NH Board of Directors . When one of the current Board members contacted me about a potential Board opening , I jumped at the opportunity as I believe it is important for all of us to volunteer and give back to our profession in some way , shape or form . I look forward to serving as Secretary and working with my fellow Board members to support the great initiatives the Board is involved in . I would also like to thank the outgoing Secretary , Brian Patinskas , for his time and efforts on the Board over the last few years .
For most of my life , Nashua has been home . I grew up in the Nashua area , graduating from Bishop Guertin High School and then attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute ( WPI ) in Worcester , MA . After graduating from WPI in 2010 with a Bachelor ’ s degree in Civil Engineering , I started my career at Hayner / Swanson , Inc . ( HSI ), a civil engineering and land surveying firm located in Nashua and have been fortunate to being a part of the HSI team ever since . Continuing my WPI education on a part-time basis , I earned a Master ’ s degree in Civil Engineering in 2014 and became licensed Professional Engineer in NH , MA & CT . As a Senior Engineer , I have experience in a wide-range of public infrastructure and private land development projects in New Hampshire and throughout New England .
One of my favorite parts about being a civil / site engineer is that each and every project I am involved with is unique based upon the land , site constraints , design elements , permitting environment , local land use boards , etc . I also enjoy the long-term relationships that are developed in working with other engineers , consultants , clients and regulatory agencies across the industry .
I now live in Nashua with my wife , Lauren , and 3-year old son , Aiden . Outside of work , I enjoy following my favorite local sports teams , golfing and spending time with family and friends . Lauren and I are high-school sweethearts and were married at one of our favorite spots – The Nubble Lighthouse in York , Maine !
