New Technologies in Precast ( Claude Goguen , P . E . ( Dir . of Outreach &
Technical Education – National Precast Concrete Association ( NPCA )))
For decades , precast concrete structures have been a trusted choice for everything from manholes and pipe to parking garages and stadiums . Along with those and many more traditional uses , precast concrete is being used in a variety of new applications such as repairing highways or in accelerated bridge construction . At the same time , technological advances in materials and manufacturing have enabled precast concrete producers to continually enhance product quality and sustainability while meeting rising demand . During this session , we will look at how a material like concrete , which has been around for thousands of years , is still evolving through amazing research and development . We will talk about how looking at concrete on a very small scale via nanotechnology is making a big impact on durability and discuss 3D printing and other automated processes and how they aid precast manufacturing . We will also discuss how cementitious materials and reinforcing are evolving to enhance sustainability and resiliency . No matter how much you think you know about precast , prepare to be amazed at its potential .
