PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE
After a damp start , October ’ s long-range forecast is looking like a nice one . Make sure that you get out there and enjoy the spoils of early fall before the cold sets in . Whether it ’ s leaf-peeping , apple-picking , hiking , hunting , lateseason golfing , or simply watching a football game , find a way to enjoy this small window of time on the calendar . Can you tell I ’ m not a huge fan of winter ?
This month will bring back ASCE-NH ’ s Lunch and Learn Webinar Series ( 1-PDH for attendees ). With events planned for November / December , this will be the last one for calendar year 2021 . Be on the lookout for signup emails , as well as the advertisement included within this Newsletter . As a teaser , we will be getting an update on the Wood Island Life Saving Station Restoration and Access Improvements Project from Duncan Mellor , P . E ., of Civilworks New England . Some may remember that this fantastic project was featured during the Joint Meeting with SENH last year . We look forward to learning about their on-going progress .
Be on the lookout for ASCE-NH ’ s November / December events . November brings the Joint Meeting with ASCE-VT . This virtual-lunchtime presentation is anticipated to occur during the week of November 15 th ( 1-PDH for attendees ). December brings the 4 th Annual Engineers Day Conference presented by ASCE- NH and Shea Concrete Products . Like last year , the conference will occur virtually over a 3-day span ( 11 / 30-12 / 2 ). An advertisement is included within this Newsletter and emails have already begun circulation . Once again , Engineer ’ s Day has a diverse and exceptional program that is certain to be a treat , while raising funds for the ASCE-NH Scholarship Fund .
And speaking of treats , October wraps with the fun of Halloween ! As a kid growing up in Keene , I always remember the excitement and build-up to trickor-treating . Lunchtime with my friends at Wheelock School always turned into a strategic planning meeting as we plotted our route to maximize our candy haul . Our costumes were always a secondary thought – just make sure to wear good sneakers to enable running between houses / neighborhoods . I always smile and look back fondly on that time ; I hope others share similar memories .
