Hello ASCE-NH ! My name is Thomas Sachs , and I have been recently added to the ASCE-NH board as the Younger Member Group Leader . This position has me working with students and other newcomers looking to become more involved with ASCE . I will be responsible for planning Younger Member Group events and socials throughout the year . My goal is to identify issues that the younger generation may have when trying to be more involved with ASCE and encourage future participation .
Even though I have just recently joined the board , my ties to ASCE go back to my days as a student . In 2018 , I graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in Civil Engineering . As a student , I spent time interning with the NHDOT , where I worked directly with field technicians on bridge rehabilitation projects and paving contracts . It was an excellent program for me to get experience in the field and provided a lot of opportunities when starting my professional career .
After graduation , I was lucky enough to have found an Engineering Estimator position with Shea Concrete Products in Amesbury , MA . As an Engineering Estimator , my job is to quote , design , manufacture and deliver precast concrete products to many different customers . Projects vary from stormwater management systems , to residential / commercial septic design , to underground electrical utilities . It is a typical day to have 10 to 15 projects going on and time management is key . I very much enjoy working closely with contractors on projects and building professional relationships .
Even though I am a UNH Wildcat , I am from out of state and currently reside in my hometown of Newburyport , MA . I am an avid skier in the winter months , and I always find myself back in the White Mountains with my friends and family . I worked as a ski instructor throughout high school and college at Mt . Cranmore , where I learned a lot about team building and leadership . When the snow melts , you ’ ll find me outside either working in my garden or finding new roads to cruise on my motorcycle . Massachusetts will always be my home , but I will admit , New Hampshire has all the good cruising roads .
