2021 ASCE NH Scholarships
In 2021 four scholarships have been awarded . Scholarships have been awarded to two Civil Engineering students at UNH . The students are Logan Stevens , a Junior from Concord NH and Dustin Wells , a Sophomore from Bow , NH . Each student will receive $ 5,000 for his use to help defray their college expenses .
Logan is currently the President of the Student Chapter of ASCE at UNH . He has worked at two engineering firms and has worked as a research assistant in the asphalt group at UNH .
Dustin is currently taking an accelerated course load in an effort to graduate a semester early . Dustin is a member of the Student Chapter of ASCE at UNH .
Two scholarships for $ 5,000 each have also been awarded to two high school students entering a college or university with an engineering academic goal . The students are Owen Libby of Bow NH and Ben Sporcic of Pembroke , NH . Owen will be attending the University of Maine , Orono in the fall . Ben has been accepted at four universities with engineering programs . Ben did not announce his choice of university at the time of his application .
“ Sensitivity Analysis ”
As the design world evolves and changes , not only are engineers expected to make recommendations based on their knowledge , experiences , and best industry practices , but often they can be asked to perform sensitivity analyses to prove what they are suggesting is indeed the best option . A sensitivity analysis is a “ determination of how a measure of worth is affected by changes in estimated values of a parameter over a stated range . Parameters may be any cost factor , revenue , life , salvage value , inflation rate , etc .”
It is not enough these days to be an expert , with the level of public scrutiny and the ease of information dissemination , one must always be proving that they are indeed an expert . While this may seem like a burden , it can also be viewed in a positive light as it will continue to force engineers to strive to better themselves , better explain themselves , and make the best possible outcomes for the public and their clients .
