GREATER CHINA

The sub-committees were set up at the end of November to better represent the individual needs of each sector of AsBAA ’ s membership .
Hong Kong - An update from the Hong Kong Chapter on the use of the Kai Tak Heliport :
“ On the 9th January 2018 LegCo ' s Panel on Security , whose remit includes public order and safety ( including the Government Flying Service ), voted overwhelmingly in support of the helipad site at Kai Tak being shared between the GFS and cross-boundary helicopter services , despite calls to suspend such commercial usage in favour of the GFS ' s sole use . In reaching that almost unanimous conclusion , the Panel on Security showed strong leadership and a shared vision for the future connectivity within the Greater Bay Area . This view was reinforced by the Transport and Housing Bureau at the same meeting , who recognised the important part to be played by helicopter services in the development of the Greater Bay Area . Not only are those helicopter services highly sought by the public , but they are also key to ensuring that Hong Kong retains its leading status as an aviation hub . This clear support from LegCo gives the aviation industry some much needed encouragement to pursue the vision of a shared heliport at Kai Tak and to move quickly to engage with relevant Government departments in the overall design of the site , and to work on the initial operational procedures and regulations . By collaborating in this way , a mutually beneficial outcome can be achieved for both the GFS and the Hong Kong aviation rotor community . The work begins in earnest .”
