Mananthavady the largest township of Wayanad lies in the banks of the tributary of the Kabani River. The name Mananthavady is believed to be derived from “Mane Eytha Vadi” meaning arrow shot at a deer.

Mananthavady is located 28 km north-east from the district headquarters Kalpetta, 80 km east of Thalassery and 92 km north-east of Kozhikode. The constituency shares its border with Coorg (60km away) and Mysore (105km away) via Karthikulam.
