ASAP WAYANAD NEWSLETTER Vol :14 | Page 12

From SKILL DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE

I feel myself very lucky to work as a Skill Development Executive of ASAP in a college, where i did my graduation. I joined as an SDE of ASAP in the year 2012 and was assigned Govt College Mananthavady . The very next year, ASAP regular batch started in St. Mary’s College and i got the opportunity to be the SDE there. I am thankful for the support and encouragement i have got here, which helped me to successfully complete 4 batches in this college. I really enjoy working as an SDE, particularly in this institution.

The class timing of ASAP regular batch is from 9 – 10 AM. 100 hours of communication and 80 hours of IT classes comprise the foundation module. ASAP classes are focused on activity oriented learning. So rather than the traditional bench and desks, the ideal classroom need to have sufficient chairs. Since the beginning of ASAP programme, the head of the institution and principal gave permission to take ASAP classes in seminar hall, which is a perfect place to conduct all the ASAP related activities as well. Also ASAP stresses on visual learning and the wall mounted projector in the seminar hall helps me to make the classes more appealing. Other infrastructure facilities like white board and green board is also available. For the IT classes, it’s important to have a fully equipped lab with internet connection. ASAP IT sections are being conducted in language lab. There are more than 30 computers and the system has both the windows and Linux based operating system as well. The sufficient number of systems give the students ample time to work individually and improve their IT skills. After the class, students are being provided with good tea and snacks, from the college canteen itself. The final project presentation itself is a great venue for the students to gain so much. Also the marks students score for the aptis assessment proves the institute is among the best in Wayanad.

ASAP club is very active as part of it, important days are being noticed and students prepare charts and posters and do conduct different competitions to observe its importance. The posters and charts prepared by the students are being displayed on the ASAP notice board. Articles and ASAP events being published in the monthly newsletter are also being displayed here. But from the 2015-16 batch, World Youth Skill Day is being conducted by ASAP students and the entire college is becoming a part of it. On that day, a skill exhibition is being organized and ASAP students, being the volunteers organize various skill competitions for all other students.

A programme like ASAP can be successful only with the full support of institution. Undoubtedly i can say this college provides the best of facilities to train the students.
