SECTOR AT FIELD
AGRICULTURE SECTOR
15.7% of India’s GDP is contributed by agriculture and allied industries. Agriculture industry is employing a large number of people in organized and unorganized sector. Today India is cultivating in 161 hectares of arable land. But the increase in population and demand of food and agricultural products makes skilling relevant in the sector.
Though there are large number of people involved in agriculture, the real number actively involved is on the decline. This makes it crucial to look into the need for training and productivity enhancement. Increase in population and decrease in arable land, minimal transfer from traditional agricultural mode and almost minimal uptake of modern technology in farming, minimal awareness of youth in farming practices and on mechanization in farm are the major challenges in front of Agriculture Sector to tackle for successful upskilling.
To meet this increased demand of skilled manpower in the sector ASAP runs a number of skill courses namely Floriculturist, Greenhouse fitter, Dairy farmer and entrepreneur, Gardner, Operation and maintenance of agriculture machineries, organic grower etc. All the skill courses are designed on the basis of the NSQF standards and visions envisaged by Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI).
