issues plaguing higher education. Graduates are collecting their degrees despite not being skilled enough to be a productive part of the Indian economy.
The main factors working behind a professional’s employability are the ability to apply the concept learnt, the gap between what they learnt and what they are supposed to perform, geographical area and the lack of skills required in job market like team work, stress management, punctuality, proficiency in English language etc. More over to this the old syllabus, lack of quality teachers, faulty education systems, and lack of skill based education affects the employability of the youth to a large extent. Although we have vocational higher secondary schools which provide different job oriented courses, the lack of improvisation in the syllabus made it as a flop. The skill based training will be effective only if the skill training is in correlation with the industry needs.
Understanding the scenario the government recognised the necessity of the skill based education. But rewriting all the existing syllabuses and education systems is not easiy possible. Only way is to provide good quality additional training to the students to improve the employability. The system also requires knowledgeable and trained team to provide the training. At this juncture, ASAP has intervened with a well-designed activity based skilling program named “Summer Skill Skool”. This program enables the students to gather the necessary skills in various fields by providing them with regular classes during the summer vacation. Theory based learning will not give a result as we seek, recognizing that the syllabus of ASAP courses are made in such a way that the ratio of theory to practical classes is 1:2.
ASAP courses' syllabus and methodology is designed as per the guidelines of National Skill Qualification Framework and its certification is done by the National Skill Development Corporation. The present target group of ASAP is the higher secondary and degree students.
The classes are scheduled in order to make the learning process as simple as possible. The practical sessions along with the theory classes enable the students to understand the techniques and to apply the same in the field. Regular monitoring, feedback and suggestions ensure the quality of the training.
