SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE

Trio benefit from science

scholarship – in memory of Angela

Three students , who are studying Applied Science , have been awarded an Angela Stewart-Grant scholarship in recognition of their commitment to their studies .
Bruce Masson , Connor Marshall and Kacey- Leigh Sadler , were awarded their scholarships for progress studying Applied Sciences .
Set up 21 years ago , the scholarship is awarded in memory of science student Angela who was from Brechin and sadly died of bowel cancer in 1999 , aged 23 . The scholarship was created by Angela ’ s mum , Sandra , to give hard-working students a little extra money to support their studies and to treat themselves . Sadly , Sandra also passed away a few years ago .
Thanks to a generous donation in Sandra ’ s will and the support and contributions from College staff , Angela ’ s scholarship has continued to flourish and support many students over the years .
This year ’ s winning students , who received a share of £ 600 , are keen to put their scholarship awards towards supporting their studies and , as per Angela ’ s wishes , also treat themselves .
Lyn Gold , Adam Smith Scholarships Coordinator said : “ Angela and her family would be thrilled that this scholarship , set up in her name , was still supporting students especially during such challenging financial times . Congratulations to all three deserving students .”

Batchelor Trust benefits 16 students

An amazing 16 students have been awarded £ 1,000 each to support them in their studies thanks to our ongoing support from the Batchelor Trust .
This is the third year that the Trust has very generously supported Fife College students studying courses that lead to a trade . The Trust were so impressed with the progress of four students awarded last year they decided to award them a further £ 1,000 this year . One of the recipients of the award over two years is Ian Hildersley who is studying HND Quantity Surveying .
Ian Hildersley said “ Being awarded a second year is a complete shock and surprise . I am ecstatic to say the least ! I never expected this but it is so rewarding to be acknowledged for all the hours and effort put into my course . Looking at where I was several years ago to where I am at now , I have turned my life around completely .
“ The money will help go towards paying off the laptop i had to purchase for the course . It will also ease the stress on utility bills right now as well . Thank you all once again , what a boost to the morale and adding to my enthusiasm for completing this course to the best of my abilities .”
Liam Eglington , who was also a recipient this year is delighted to be recognised .
Liam said “ I am really pleased to be awarded the scholarship . I never really knew what I wanted to do since leaving school but since starting college and doing Construction Futures I ’ ve found something I ’ m good at .
“ I ’ m enjoying the building part of the course and hearing the feedback from my lecturers and being awarded the scholarship has given me a confidence boost .”
