Yes, I certainly can. It was a competition for the
SBS PopAsia Presenter Search. I was watching
SBS with my girlfriend when they had showed the
promotion for the competition, and she encouraged
me to apply for the role. So I thought why not, it
would be a great opportunity to learn new skills and
work alongside the hosts. I wrote up a script that
involved me introducing myself and having a mock
interview with a Korean Pop artist. From there I
asked a filmmaker who I’ve worked with to film my
audition, which he was happy to do. I sent in my
audition, then a couple months later I discovered I
had made it to the final 15 through the judges’
decisions. From there, it was up to the public to vote
on the video audition they liked the most, and I was
lucky enough that they selected mine. It was such
an overwhelming experience to find out that I was
selected, still to this day I am so appreciative of the
support from everyone.
You say this has been a dream since you were
little. Tell us when it was that you first realized
this.
When I was younger it was difficult for me to make
friends and interact due to English being my second
language, so I watched a lot of television shows and
movies. I was so fascinated watching a storyline
come together that was being portrayed through
actors. I admired what they did and from there I
knew that was what I wanted to pursue as a career.
I read in a previous article that you are also a
producer? What work have you produced?
(Laughing) No – I’ve only done a little bit of
producing, which was for my own short film that I
wrote and co-directed. I have to tell you, it was such
a different experience being behind the camera as
opposed to being in front of it. I definitely have a
new-found respect for producers and directors.
Will you be producing anything new this year,
and if so when should we be on the lookout for
it?
Yes. Hopefully we can film some more short films
that I have written, but that comes with patience,
timing, organization for every step without rushing.
In saying that though, people will definitely get to
see something from me in the near future.
Going back to acting which is primarily what
you do, how did you initially start out – did you
study or jump straight into it?
I was offered my first role as a lead for a music
video. It was such a fantastic feeling as it was my
