Angela Iliadis Take Me to the Country I combine a full-time Coordinator role in a private school, a career as a practising artist/printmaker, and part-time study at UNSW Art and Design completing a Master of Art. I am a mixed media visual artist with an artistic practice spanning painting, drawing, printmaking and digital imaging. My works are regularly exhibited and sold within Australia and overseas. As an artist, I work to develop paintings that speak to me and evoke a reaction from the viewer. I predominately produce landscapes and abstracts, but as an emerging artist I like to extend myself by constantly trying new techniques and subject matter. Part of my process before I begin creating is to research as much as I can about the chosen subject, and the best technique and media to use for the artwork. I want to capture the image with careful colour choices and brush strokes in order to achieve the style I am going for. My paintings are a personal expression of my fascination with the visual effects of colour, as revealed by the play of light across an array of objects or elements of the landscape. My goal is to portray the beauty of colour. Throughout my years of researching and creating art I have learned to appreciate the great utility of chiaroscuro, an Italian word for light-dark. It is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark and it usually affects the whole composition. My works depict the use of strong contrasts. I have been fortunate to receive various awards in art shows for my works. This painting won four awards, with one judge commenting: “Good variety of shapes and strong contrasts, captured the feeling of landscape”. www.angelailiadis.com
