Conducting an audience sing-along group of young people from the local churches and conducted a concert of Christmas carols in Gulbankian Hall at the University. Returning shortly afterwards to California, my parents decided to settle us in the Palos Verdes area. I paid a visit to that professor, Dr. Jane Hardester, who was herself a pioneer in the American scene of Choral Music. She was one of the leading female conductors and founding member of choral organizations that sought excellence in their performances and have paved the path for many of us in this amazing art form. Our paths would often collide and I tried to keep in touch with her throughout my educational journey. I believe it was God’s ultimate plan to bring me full-circle back to El Camino College, “where I was discovered”. My present position at El Camino College as “Director of Choral Activities” is the post she held for 30 years. Since 1996, I have been sitting at the same desk she used, in the same office she occupied and teach/conduct the same classes she taught.
