The Accrington Pals focuses on the human experiences of the First World War and wartime Britain. Offering a stark contrast between nature of day to day life in rural England, complete with comedy; and the harsh realities of the effect the war had on all people.
This play goes further in exploring the emergent working class feminist movement than much of the art we see of the First World War, showing that the war affected all parts of society.
Above all, it is a thought provoking play about people, and about the toll conflict takes on people.

Roz Goddard has published four collections of poems, the most recent, the acutely observed, streetwise and bittersweet The Sopranos Sonnets and Other Poems( Nine Arches Press) featured on BBC Radio 3’ s The Verb.
Spill( Flarestack) is Roz’ s latest pamphlet and these deeply personal poems bristle with honesty and tenderness as they explore the transformative relationship between love, loss and spirituality.
Keele alumna and Honorary Research Fellow Deborah Alma’ s debut poetry collection Dirty Laundry published by Nine Arches Press is raucous, daring and honest, drawing contemporary women’ s lives and those of our foremothers into the spotlight.
“ Haunted by violence, yet refusing to be silent, rooted in the body as a way of experiencing the world and unafraid in their sensuality, these are poems that examine women’ s lives in all their complexity, woven through with imagery that lingers in the mind and the heart long after you finish reading.”
